08. Results Show Psych-Out

It may seem like the only thing I think about is youth ministry, but every once in a while I'll think of something and I'll chuckle to myself.  Hopefully these things will give you a good laugh also.  I'll stick with the Serious Tuesdays and Humorous Fridays and every now and then a bonus none-youth-ministry-related blog.  Today is one of those days.

So I was watching SYTYCDCanada*.  You may not have seen it, but if you've seen any talent-based competition-style reality show you've probably seen the psych out results.  Like last night, Leah Miller kept saying things like, "Will you be going home?  Yes, I'm sorry you will... but not tonight!  You're still in the competition!"  or "I'm afraid we won't be seeing you dance on this stage again... until next week!  You got enough votes!"

First of all, it's old.  Seacrest played it out years ago.  Second of all, how has this not made it into real life?  As some of you know I am currently looking for a job.  How great would it be if a church phoned me up and the conversation went something like this.

Good evening, Smith residence.

Hi, is Josh there?

Speaking.

Hey, this is First Church calling, we've looked over your resume and I'm sorry to say we're not interested... in anyone else!  Your resume is excellent and smells like vanilla, which is really confusing since you emailed it to us!  We'd love to offer you the position, however, it's already taken... a really long time to find you!  You are a great fit, we'd love for you to start September 1st.  The only problem is we've called your references and quite honestly they had nothing good to say... about themselves!  They were too busy telling us how great you are!  The only problem is that the salary is quite low.

Sorry, you cut off there.

Sorry, I was saying the salary is quite loaded with zeros!  Our congregation watched a video of one of your sermons last night and voted on whether or not to call you to our church.  The response was overwhelming!  Would you like to know the results of the vote?

Absolutely I would.

Well I'll tell you... right after this short break!

So tell me, what is a situation you wish you could pull the psych out or have it pulled on you?
